CL018 CLUTCH

I had to take the clutch apart on my 1968 Venom clubman mark II, I noted there was no locking plate on the sleeve gear nut although my parts book listed same.
I purchased a new locking plate and screw for use on reassembly, however when I had the clutch back together with the sleeve gear nut driven home tight, I could not fit the locking plate on the nut as the hole for the screw was not threaded.
Was the locking plate omitted on the last produced Velocettes or should it still be fitted. I have been riding this bike for a few years without the sleeve gear nut coming loose, in fact to remove it was a real struggle. - David Bevis 29/5/2007
