AV004 ADVERTISING/VALUING
As a non-owner but longtine fan of velocettes I was interested to see a
derelict Velo with side car when on holiday last year.
This year I hope to track down the owner and have a closer look at it.
Can you tell me where to look for the frame and engine nos? - Jeremy Smith

If the Velo is post 1953 and therefore has rear suspension then the numbers
were always:
Frame - stamped into a flat surface on the right- hand side of the bracket into
which the top tube of the frame and the vertical tube behind the gearbox are
brazed. This puts it half under the rear mounting bracket of the early small
petrol tank and fully under the back of the large tank, so either way it is very
difficult or impossible to see unless you can the raise the rear of the tank. It
should be RSxxxx or RSxxxxx where x are digits.
The engine number is stamped into the outside of the crankcase mouth on the left
hand side just below the cylinder barrel. Engine numbers aren't too good a
guide, since engines are often swapped or replaced. - 9/7/2003
